Complete replacement of magnetic flux in a flux rope during a coronal mass ejection

چکیده
Solar coronal mass ejections are the most energetic events in System. In their standard formation model, a magnetic flux rope builds up into ejection through reconnection that continually converts overlying, untwisted twisted enveloping pre-existing rope. However, only minority of carry coherent as core structure, which casts doubt on universality this orderly wrapping process. Here we provide observational evidence different and eruption mechanism from an S-shaped thread, where its is fully replaced via flare reconnections. One footpoints sigmoidal feature slipped expanded during formation, then moved to completely new place, associated with highly dynamical evolution ribbons twofold increase footpoint, eruption. Such configuration not predicted by models or numerical simulations highlights three-dimensional nature reconnections between surrounding field.

Flux Rope Formation Preceding Coronal Mass Ejection Onset
We analyse the evolution of a sigmoidal (S shaped) active region toward eruption, which includes a coronal mass ejection (CME) but leaves part of the filament in place. The X-ray sigmoid is found to trace out three different magnetic topologies in succession: a highly sheared arcade of coronal loops in its long-lived phase, a bald-patch separatrix surface (BPSS) in the hours before the CME, and...
متن کاملCoronal mass ejections and magnetic flux buildup in the heliosphere
[1] To test for magnetic flux buildup in the heliosphere from coronal mass ejections (CMEs), we simulate heliospheric flux as a constant background open flux with a time-varying interplanetary CME (ICME) contribution. As flux carried by ejecta can only contribute to the heliospheric flux budget while it remains closed, the ICME flux opening rate is an important factor. Two separate forms for th...
متن کاملMagnetic Flux Cancellation and Coronal Magnetic Energy
I investigate the processes at work in the cancellation of normal magnetic flux in solar magnetograms and study the relationships between cancellation and the budget of free magnetic energy in the coronal magnetic field that can power solar flares and CMEs. After defining cancellation mathematically, I derive equations that quantify the evolution of free magnetic energy in response to arbitrary...
متن کاملA bright coronal downflow seen in multi-wavelength observations: evidence of a bifurcating flux-rope?
Aims. To study the origin and characteristics of a bright coronal downflow seen after a coronal mass ejection associated with erupting prominences on 5 March 2000. Methods. This study extends that of Tripathi et al. (2006b) based on the Extreme-ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (EIT), the Soft Xray Telescope (SXT) and the Large Angle Spectrometric Coronagraph (LASCO) observations. We combined those...
متن کاملTemperature Tomography of a Coronal Sigmoid Supporting the Gradual Formation of a Flux Rope
Multi-wavelength observations of a sigmoidal (S-shaped) solar coronal source by the EUV Imaging Spectrometer and the X-ray Telescope aboard the Hinode spacecraft and by the EUV Imager aboard STEREO are reported. The data reveal the coexistence of a pair of J-shaped hot arcs at temperatures T > 2 MK with an S-shaped structure at somewhat lower temperatures (T ≈ 1–1.3 MK). The middle section of t...
